Berry Medley Compote

If you like a bit of sweet, tart and freshness combined all-in-one over your favorite breakfast or desserts then a fruit compote is the way to go. They are perfect of pancakes, waffles and french toast, as well as desserts like ice cream or cakes. My compote recipe is very basic which to me is ideal because I can make it without much hassle. Not mention I use frozen fruit! It’s perfect to use when certain fruits are not in season or you simply do not have 3-4 different types of berries laying around on a given day! However, you can make a compote with different fruit combinations and if you have fresh fruit available you can still use this recipe without much difference.

Yields: 2 Cups Total Time: 15 minutes

  • 3 Cups Frozen Berries
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 3-4 Tbsp Water

In a small to medium sauce pan add frozen berries, sugar and water. Bring to a simmer.

Bring to simmer until the liquid reduces and thickens.

Quick Tip: Do not over-stir berries while simmering. A couple of stirs every now and then is sufficient. Over stirring while the fruits are letting out its natural juices may cause the fruit to be mashed and end up with something like a runny jam. You want to have as much of the whole berries as possible.

Allow it to cool down a bit (about a warm temperature) before serving. If not using right away, store in a tight lid container and refrigerate until ready to use. You can warm up as needed.
